High-Country wildlife consultants is an environmental consulting firm specializing in providing individualized reserach services to not-for-profit, industry, and government sectors. Our approach focuses on using science and data to help our clients produce novel policy and management alternatives. We solve problems. Our work is collaborative in nature and we often work with our clients to address large and complicated issues in conservation and resource management.
Project Design and Implementation
The best designed study doesn't need complicated statistics. High-country has experience designing and implementing both large- and small-scale projects. Whether it's a rough and ready biodiversity survey, assessment of species at risk, a long-term monitoring projects, or large-scale experiment, High-Country can design and implement the type of data collection and management protocols that will solve the problem at hand. Well-designed studies often don't need complicated statistics, and we have the expertise to guilde study design, and conduct rigorous data analysis.
Statistical Analysis and Quantitative Modeling
Sometimes the most effective data presentation is a simple bar graph; in other cases, more powerful techniques are needed to clarify key drivers in complex processes. We provide data summary and analysis services tailored to our client's needs. Whether a geospatial analysis, GIS mapping of wildlife-habitat relationships, generalized linear modeling of experimental results, Bayesian analysis of stable isotope data, analysis of DNA sequencing data, or a meta-analysis of existing information we can design and implement standard or emerging techniques for the question at hand. We also can provide basic data management and archiving services.
Data collection and surveys
High-country can provide expertise in the inventory of a variety of taxonomic groups, including the descriptions of individual behaviour, population size, and diversity of communities. Our expertise includes non-invasive surveys, direct observation, telemetry techniques. We have experience in conducting relative and absolute abundance surveys of populations of birds, small mammals, insects, plants, and large carnivores.
Communication and Policy Development
It's not science until we communicate to the wider community. We are continually working to find innovative ways to communicate our clients' results, or to improve communication during design, data collection, and analysis phases. Although peer-reviews scientific publications are the foundation of our work, High-Country can deliver collaborative workshops, produce simplified scientific brochures, or synthesize previous work. Incorporating and communicating science into policy and management alternatives that fit our clients' objectives is the always the endpoint.
